Position:  Manager, Housekeeping and Patient Assistant Liaison (PAL) Program

Department:  Environmental Services

Hours:  Monday to Friday Days.  Evening and Weekends as required.

Site:  Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital site

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Director of Environmental Services, the Manager will be responsible for providing ethical leadership in the administration and management of consistent quality cleaning services across the Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH).  The Manager will establish and implement effective working relationships with all HHS Managers and will provide leadership and support to the team leaders for the day-to-day operations of the department.

It is the responsibility of the Manager to reinforce, grow and nurture the Patient Assistant Liaison (PAL) Program. PALs provide housekeeping , food services and portering functions along with assisting nursing staff in non-clinical tasks and providing customer service to patients. The Manager will coordinate the day-to-day activities of Housekeeping and PALS (approximately 100 staff), including scheduling; issuing work assignments and ensuring adherence to departmental and hospital policies; and training. Participates in safety, risk management and quality improvement to meet hospital and healthcare standards. Provides input into the preparation, administration and control of the Environmental Services budget. Actively participate in the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committees, Shared Services West and others.

Qualifications:

  • Post Secondary education or College Diploma in Business Administration or other related field
  • Professional Healthcare Housekeeper's Certificate (PHH) preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years' supervisory or management experience
  • Experience working in a unionized environment
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, control, schedule and coordinate activities
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, staff development and team building skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Experienced in developing and maintaining capital and operating budgets
  • Satisfactory employment and attendance record
