Criteria for Certification
O.H.H.A. Professional Healthcare Housekeepers’ Inc.
Certificate Program (PHH)
Each
applicant must be a Member in good standing with the Ontario
Healthcare Housekeepers’ Association Inc.
Each
applicant must reach a credit level of 120
The
credits assessed must be attained as per the following schedule:

A: Total of 100 credits

Successful
completion of the Professional Healthcare Housekeepers’
Certificate Program (PHH).
PHH
consists of the following two components:
1.
O.H.H.A. Required Courses
30 Credits minimum
- Housekeeping
Methodology
15 credits
- Infection
Control
15 credits
- *Laundry & Linen Technology
15 credits
*This course will be replaced by a “Linen Practices” course
with a maximum credit of “10 credits”.
2. O.H.A. credit course
50 Credits minimum
One course required from the list below

C Conditions
1. Each applicant must include photocopies of certificates and
credit courses.
2. Each applicant must include a signed letter to verify the
employment
requirements as per Section B.

4. The OHHA Education Committee will evaluate all applicants.
Please
note there is a $100 process fee for the initial certification and a $25
annual renewal fee. See the criteria below for renewal.
Criteria
For Renewal of the PHH Certification
1.
Proof of continuing education in the healthcare housekeeping field.
Include
photocopy of certificate of successful completion.
2.
Proof of continuing education in the health care field. Include
photocopy of certificate of successful completion.
3.
Proof of attendance of educational conference and/or seminars
geared toward the advancement of professional development in healthcare
housekeeping.

INFECTION CONTROL
This course reviews infection control principles and practices in the
health care setting with an emphasis on the role of Environmental
Services in preventing the spread of infection.

LAUNDRY AND LINEN TECHNOLOGY
This course will examine how laundries operate in a health care
setting. The topics discussed will be relevant to the management of
traditional in-house laundries as well as regional and central laundries
which support multiple health care institutions.

HOUSEKEEPING METHODOLOGY
This course provides a practical guide to establishing a housekeeping
methodology in a health care facility. Participants will learn how to
put this methodology into practice, resulting in an optimally efficient
Environmental Services/Housekeeping department.

*Innovation and Quality in Housekeeping
*Performing Time and Motion Studies
*Developing an Inventory, Routine and Project Tasks Data Base
*Standards of Cleanliness
*Calculating Discharge Rates, Calculating Workloads
*Coordinating Equipment and Staffing requirements
*Developing an Effective Staff Work Schedule
Beginning October 1, 1999, the O.H.H.A was pleased to offer the above
courses on a continuous intake basis. These courses were developed to be
directly related to the healthcare field by skilled, healthcare
personnel proficient in their fields of expertise.
The tuition fee for each of the O.H.H.A courses is $495.00 Canadian.
Healthcare institutions continue to restructure and face ongoing
challenges with respect to offering quality care. This ever changing
environment is presenting unprecedented opportunities and challenges to
the work force to keep skills and knowledge current and to enhance
career options. We urge you to take advantage of the O.H.H.A courses.
You might also want to consider working towards a full Professional
Healthcare Housekeeping Services Administration Certificate. The
criteria for certification is at the beginning of this page.

In response to the demand for frontline worker
education, the Members of the OHHA have developed this Environmental
Services Front Line Staff Course. This non-managerial course will help
staff to achieve professionalism and assist them to better understand
their position in the work environment.
It is recommended that the course be completed in six
months. There are eight assignments and a final exam. Registration for
this course is open enrollment which means the course can be taken at
any time. The course is done through correspondence and each student is
assigned a preceptor.
The cost of the course is $100.00 per person.
